my dog is 5 years old and we expected him 2 calm down but he didn't. how should we get him 2 calm down?
Answers:
whatdo you mean by he won't calm down, like when you get home or all the time? How much do you walk him?? Some dogs have alot of energy and need to be walked alot. My dog get a two mile walk everday or she bounces off the walls literally! What breed of dog is it some breeds stay active until they die, terriers,(Parson russels) herding dogs,(borders/aussies) working dogs,(pitbull/staffs). So if it is breed of this nature don't expect it to, and if you don't walk it ever then don't expect to either. You should have expected this when you got a dog, even if a breeder says one thing the dog can be diffrent.
get his weeny clipped, lol. No really get him nuetered (i cant spell that) it will make him much calmer and more well behaved!
kill him!
Try getting him neutered if he's not aready. A lot of times that mellows them out. Maybe some obedience training wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Good Luck!
doggy Adderall? lol
Some breeds of dogs require more excercise and interaction than others. Try walking him daily and give him some playtime with you, for example throwing a ball or taking him to obedience classes, you would be surprised how much you and your dog can get out of these classes. Good luck!
What breed is he?
Some breeds never "calm" down.If one puts a hunting dog or working dog in a apartment well, one is asking for trouble, or of course a unhappy dog.
Then if one only gives a dog attention when it is play time, why would a dog ever want to calm down? Calm down=No attention.
Need more information before this question can be answered properly..
get foster and smith catolog they have items that will calm him down instantly
violence.
some breeds need more excersize and playtime then others. Like if you have a beagle than it would probaly be running around until the day it dies.
Try taking it out more often and playing with it more.
nutering helps, also it protects against other health issues. Also lots of playtime, doggie parks, doggie day care, places where he can run and jump and come home tired, and relaxed.
LOVE HIM!
treat him as if he were a baby.rock him slowly. give him time and he might calm down
Sounds like he needs doggie obedience training (which also includes doggie owner training).
Give him plenty of exercise too.
Some dogs are just hyper. Terrier dogs are called little terrors.lol Do you love him any less because he is hyper? Probably more training when he was a puppy would have gone a long way to proper behavior. I doubt anything will help after 5 years.
The absolute BEST way to calm down any dog is with good basic, obedience training. It's never too late to start that. If he's already had it, sounds like it's time for a refresher course.
I'm going to assume he's already neutered. (If he's not, what are you waiting for..testicular cancer?..perineal hernias?..prostate problems?..perianal cancer??..because all those things are common in unneutered male dogs. It's a whole lot better to neuter them BEFORE any of that happens, b/c once it does, it's often too late for neutering to solve the problem.)
EDIT: Good on you for having him neutered! See all the problems (listed above) that you prevented? :-)
My sister had the same situation with a dog she adored. After expressing her concern to the vet, the dog was given some sort of tranquilizer pill every day. It made living with him much more bearable, and the whole family got some rest! The dog was still active and playful, but he did stop bouncing off the walls. After you get him calm enough to handle, then perhaps you can instill some manners in him with good training.
