my dog has bad gas, any ideas??

Answers:
Read the label of the dry dog food. Most dog food is primarily corn, wheat or soy. This can cause a lot of gas. Check with your vet and then switch him to a good quality brand DRY dog food.maybe a lamb/rice or turkey/rice formula. Try to avoid corn, wheat or soy, or at least formulas with those as the main or first ingrediants.

Also, all of these dog treats on the market are mostly flour and sugar. =GAS. Cut out "Semi moist" food or canned food and any treats other than a hard, dry Milkbone type of biscuit. Also, no pigs ears or rawhide or cow holves to chew either. If the dog needs to chew, use a nylabone or a plain old cow shank bone (you can buy clean, white bones at the pet store)

This is what worked for me.
YES FED IT TUMS--
Try lamb and rice based dog food.
does it eat grass well if it does thats the problem, or you can get one of those glade fresheners or freebrez stuff so it can smell better a little bit i hope not either
Most likely his diet is causing his gastro-intestinal extravaganza. Go with a good quality dog food like Purina, no table scraps, no people food, and no canned food for a few weeks and see if it straightens it out.

If not, it could be worms or some other intestinal parasites. Try the strict diet thing first and if not, have a vet check for the other.
it could be the food you are feeding him/her, try a different kind (gradually of course, never change a food cold turkey, mix some in with the old, then a little less of the old more of the new until it's all new food). Or take it to the vet and see what they say.
Do not give it lamb, my dog vomet's because of lamb. try giving your dog some dry food. ( purina ) it should help.
Change his diet. Do you feed him dog food or human food? Both? I believe the nasty gas could be from whatever table foods they may eat. Or, if he doesn't eat human food, maybe the brand of dog food he is eating. House dog, huh? Poor you!!
Even though I don't know what type of food you are feeding your dog, it is a fair guess that you are feeding kibble which ferments in their stomach due to a LONG digestion time. Starches that turn to sugar cause fermentation. Fermentation causes gas.

Since dogs were not meant to eat 'processed kibble' the best advise I can give you is to look into a more WHOLESOME diet of fresh raw meat and bones (get a good book on the subject like the one Kymythy Schultze wrote on Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats).

In the meantime, you can give your dog FENNEL (capsule form will work) or GINGER to relieve the gas. Try to stay away from given HUMAN chemical conconction like gas-x since these can cause more problems than they solve. An fecal exam by your vet will rule out any internal parasites which can also cause a 'gassy stomach' and a wellness check should be done at least once a year. Older pets are more prone to gas and obesity and the lack of exercise can also contribute to a 'gassy pet'.

I do hope this answers your question.
