My dog has been eating the cat's litter.?

it's the clumping kind of litter. In the last couple of days he has been vomiting after he eats his normal food. He's a dog of course so he then eats his own vomit. But, do you think eating clumping cat litter can cause a bowel obstruction which might be causing the vomiting?

Seriously, you cannot go wrong with this article:

This should help enormously!
KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE DOG .
BUY DOG FOOD.
My dog used to do that too! He was eating the cat POOP not just the litter, which may be what your dog is doing. Yuck. You asked if cat litter can cause a bowel obstruction which might be causing the vomiting..and all I can say is that I'd VOMIT TOO if I was eating cat litter (with or without clumps.) Set the cat's litter box so that the opening is close to the wall or wherever so your dog can't sniff and get his head in there. Or move the litter box where the dog can't get to it.
Take him to the vet ASAP! Cat litter is very toxic and your dog might be in danger. He might have some kind of deficiency that the vet can help you with.
It may be true that he has bowel obstruction, also he may have worms or even liver problems. I would make a visit to the vet immediately.
Most cat litters are clay based, and yes they can cause bowel obstructions. If he is vomiting when he eats his regular food, YES get him to a vet IMMEDIATELY.
You need to put the cat litter box in a place where your dog can't access it. We elevated ours to a height they couldn't reach, but you can also keep it in a room that you can guard with a "baby gate" at the doorway, or even consider putting in a kitty door if your dog is large enuf not to be able to squeeze thru it.
please tell me you dog has had it's shots!? eating cat poop is the #1 cause for parvo! i would take him to the vet. asap.!
Watch your dog, to make sure he is going potty. The vomiting is most likely from the cat litter, however you need to rule that out. I placed my litter box behind a baby gate, so the cat can still use the litter box, but the dog can't get to it. You may need to move the litter box several times until ya find the right spot that cat can still use it but that dog can't get to it. If the vomiting still continues then I would say you have another problem and need to take him/her to the vet. I would not suggest letting the dog eat his own vomit even though it is normal, he/she will be eating the same irritants again. I hope this helps you!
to much of it can.i recently bought a house that has a small door and a litter box inside at petco for about 40 dollars you should see if they carry it he wouldnt be able to get in it i bet..gl !!
For some reason, which I have yet to figure out, all dogs will eat cat poop if given the chance. Put the litter where the dog can't reach or get to it. Cats can get to the litter even if it is up on something.
Any litter could cause an obstruction. If you can catch him doing that, correct him firmly and tell him NO. You will have to watch him closely but I think you can change the behavior.
