My Labrador is 2 years old he has had all the tests for epilepsy and all have come back negative, yet he still has the fits about one a week, sometimes he has 3 or 4 one after the other,We have spent 拢2000 on vet fees and have no answers. He has been on Mysolin and is now on 1000mg of bromide and still fitting. Can anyone help.

What does your dog eat? Kibble/dry dog food/tinned food?? If so, try stopping the kibble completely and put the dog on a fresh, mostly raw diet. I work in nutrition, and have helped many dogs get over their fits just by changing their diet. My own two dogs also suffered fits when they started eating dry food many years back. I took them off it and the fits stopped. When I went away on a long holiday, they had kibble again (different type)and the fits started again. Since then they have been on a raw meat/vegetables/soaked or cooked oats diet, and they have not had any fits since. It's easy, saves me whopping food or vet bills, and most of all, my dogs are fit and healthy with shiny coats. Too many dogs are being medicated when it is not necessary and all they need is not to be fed what is causing their problems. Don't feed any wheat, corn or soya - ( all contained in manufactered dog foods) - these are all genetically modified foods which animals' bodies have a hard time accepting.
Many people do not realise what goes into manufactured dog foods - the addtiives and preservatives in these foods affect the liver, kidneys, circulatory and nervous systems of your pets and cause many health problems. If you really, really MUST feed a ready prepared food, try buying one which is totally organic, has no synthetic preservatives, and no soy, wheat and corn - these are substituted with rice or oats in the better diets.
Please do try changing your dog's diet. It may make the world of difference and save both you and your pet a whole load of trouble and heartache. I hope this helps and wish you and your dog all the best.

dont think i can help but i have a large dog and he has been on phenobarbital since he was 1 and a half years old for seizures.hes almost 4 now and still has them every now and then.the meds only controls them to the dog having less seizures.have you had your dogs blood count checked? i have to take my dog every 6 months to be checked.maybe you need to find another vet.
i am suprised they never even gave the poor dog a trail of anti epileptic medication

definitely go back to the vets, have they actually seen the dog when he been fitting? if not then I would have thought they`d keep him in under observation to get to the root of the problem, after the amount of money you spent already,they should do more for it, hope you get it sorted ok
You may need to find another vet that may find something else wrong. There are lots of things that cause seizures. You lab may have a tumor or growth that is causing his fits. He may also have a birth defect of some sort that is causing them. I would definitely be taking him to a different vet.
My dog is 13 and has had epilepsy all her life .She takes phenobarbital,and when she has a bad one(more than 5 minutes) I have injectable Valium to give her(prescription from her vet).She took potassium bromide for a while,along with her phenobarbital,but as she has aged she has fewer ,less severe seizures,so I stopped it .Dogs are not all the same,and maybe the bromide isn't the right drug for your dog.If your vet has done an x-ray of the dogs brain and found no tumor,then I would ask to try the dog on phenobarbital.Good luck.
my saint Bernard started with epilepsy just over two years ago. He started on mysolin but only stopped fitting when he started taking epilease and epiphen. Hasn't had a single fit for two years now
Ive had two dogs that have been epileptic, both of which were on mysolin. However I found that for one of them changing his diet cured him totally. I went from giving him tinned food and biscuits to complete dried food and he never had a fit again, he lived till he was 17 years old.
It would be worth giving it a try but I'd changed vets too.

you can obtain diazepam rectal tubes which will bring your pet out of the seizure amost straight away, phenobarbital can be prescribed by a veternary hospital if your pet has more than 1 fit in a single month
