My dog has a mite that makes her hair fall out, medication is not working. Is there a natural remidy?

Hi no there is no simple treatment for what you are describing %26 you should take her back to the vets for the proper treatment as she sounds like she's got mange.she should be bathed in the proper treatment from a vet %26 kepted under treatment until she's got rid of the problem.

You "know" its a mite?
Then medication will work-just change. Also make sure you don't have a breeding ground for the mites.
If you "do not know" it is a mite-then check for allergies.
Are you sure it is not fleas?

It might be mange, check with your vet to be sure though. My doxie puppy had the same problem. For a natural remedy vs. meds and/or dips, I suggest what worked for him -- Neem. (It's an herb that kills mange mites). Check out the following link, there's Neem shampoo and oil, etc. and an article in the center of the page near the end, that is very helpful. Neem is pretty darn expensive, but was sooooooo well worth it when my pup quit the frenzied itching and his hair started growing back in. ;)

I could only afford the Neem shampoo, not the whole regimen, although getting the rest too would be a good idea, if one can afford it as well. Depending on the size of your dog, you may not need to use very much for each bath. I used an oatmeal conditioner after the Neem shampoo, and that helped to ease his itching. Also, I bathed him with the shampoo every 3 days for a whole month. He was the cleanest pup in the USA, to be sure! LOL.. And within 2 weeks his itching had stopped completely, and soon afterward his hair started growing back, a sure sign that the mites were gone. Checked with the vet to be sure, and got the thumbs up. He's almost a year old now, and I've just bathed him occasionally with the Neem shampoo since. The vet told me he looks as though he's never had mange. Hope this helps your pup. Check with your vet before you try Neem, although it won't hurt your pup to try, that's for sure!

if it is mange, then your vet does have the treatment. you have to treat according to directions. when my little maggie (RT) had "red mange" i had to treat her every 2 weeks for 2 months.

and if it is mange depending on what kind, you can get it too. then you'll be treating you as well. sarcoptic mange will spread to others in the home who come in contact with it.

do not put anything on your dog unless the vet gives it to you.

My dog had mites, and we did try the natural route without any success. Our vet was able to treat her successfully with medicated dips. Please check with your vet again, I believe there are a few medication options. It was a stubborn case for her, but eventually they were gone.

Medication is likely working, however it can take a year or more before the mange mite is completely eliminated. You need to continue with the medications and do exactly as the vet directs you. You also need to make sure that your dog is eating a high quality food and taht you keep it's immune system strong.

If you are sure that its a mite then its definally mange. Have you tried invermectin? I have a pit mix with Demodex ( Red Mange) and it works so good. Within a month all her hair had grown back and she stopped itching. There are also dips that you can use too (given at the vets office.) And if she has mange you also should give her an antibotic for secondary infections that usually come along with outbreaks of mange. Alot of times they get other infections where they have itched and tore the skin. Also by having your pet fixed you will get rid of mange. Hormone changes are what causes outbreaks of mange. Check with your vet asap. A dog with mange is a very unhappy dog.

But whatever you do DO NOT PUT MOTOR OIL ON HER. IT CAUSES SO MUCH DAMAGE TO THE SKIN AND ORGANS. PEOPLE WHO TELL YOU TO DO THIS ARE WRONG AND SHOULDNT OWN ANY PETS. ITS CRUEL!
