my dog has long hair. why is that?

Answers:
It depends on the breed of dog and the genes the dog is carrying. . Some have long hair and some have short hair just as some dogs develop a thick undercoat and others do not.

It's kind of like like some people have straight hair and some have naturally curly hair.
his hair grows fast or you dont cut it often.
What breed is it?
depending on the breed, longhair could be its dominant gene which means that just about all of them will have long hair except for a few rare cases. If your dog is dominant for shorthair then (s)he has two recessive alleles causing it to have longhair.

Some breeds on the other hand just have a few differences. Like chihuahuas come in long and short hair.
Same reason he has four legs. his DNA dictates his physical properties
It depends on the breed. Some dogs are long haired and some are short haired.

Long hair dogs probably need a bit more grooming.
it probably inherited it's long hair ,or it needs a hair cut.
