My dog is a border collin mix. He is 1 year old. He does not follow my lead while we go for a walk. Please hel

He is also very finicky eater. He only eats a bowl of dry food with wet food mixed a day. How much should he eat? he weights 52 pound.

Don't know about the food, but try a choke chain on him for the next walk.
We used to have boder colli mix, but she ran around on her own. I now have an English Springer Spaniel who we keep tied up and will take on walks. I found that if your dog tends to wonder a lot during the walk, hold the lease tight.
I think I saw on the animal network, to hold the lease at you hip and keep it tight enough that the dog keeps its head up. Less slack in the lease will keep the dogs nose from following various scents on the ground that tend to discract them.
When you walk him, constantly change directions and show him where you want him to go. Be the leader. Don't let him be the leader.

Enroll in a training class. You'll learn proper techniques for walking your dog.
A training class would really help with this one, as well as get you on track for lots of other training commands. BC's are very intelligent and learn so very fast. I am constantly amazed at how quickly our BC puppy picks up new things.
When you have a dog, any breed of dog, they will need you to act like their pack leader. If your dog is not following your lead when you take walks, try several things. First, you want to take your leash, and instead of using the clip to hook onto the collar, use the loop side of the leash, pull a bit of the leash through the loop so you can put the makeshift collar around your dogs neck. The make shift collar should be right under your digs chin, not hanging loose around it's shoulders like normal collars. Have a firm hold of the leash when you walk your dog, make sure that when he/she tries to move a head of you, you do not allow this. Don't yank on the leash or jerk it, just don't give him/her the length to move that far. I know it sounds funny, but you also have to have a low stress level when you're walking your dog, otherwise they feel your stress and react to it.
Border collies are a very high strung dogs and were meant for hearding. You might want to see if there are any groups that do cart pulling or hearding competitions in your area and work on him. If the food he is eating is at least a cup and 1/2 then he is eating plenty. Get a choker and work with him inside and outside as much as possible.
Try a training collar instead of a choker type chain. If he pulls to hard with a choke chain he can really do some damage to himself a training collar on the other hand will pinch the skin around his neck and make pulling away from you extreamly uncomfortable with out hurting him ( similar to mother dogs correcting puppies by grabbing the skin on the neck). A training or pinch collar may look scarey but trust me you can try it on your arm and see it wont hurt them like a choke chain will.

Training collars should always be taken off when not being used though so they dont get caught on anything.
