Don't fight your dog on this. its not a natural thing for him. He obviously doesn't like it or he feels like you are trying to make him do something against his will. Don't worry about the coat just be mindful about how long he is outside in the cold. Maybe you unintentionally hurt him last time you put it on and he is a bit traumatized. Maybe you could just try a really soft, stretchy sweater that enables him to move about freely without being restricted.. after all he has probably grown over the past few seasons and it probably doesn't fit anymore.

Did you check it for stickers, dried grass.anything that may be sticking him?
perhaps he has an unseen injury. better check him over first.
put him in a cage/bathroom, and put it on.
don't put it on in front of him
hmm maybe he senses an evil presence in the jacket
I would say it's a behavioral issue, but if you've always been able to do it with no resistance, check him for injuries. Also, check the jacket for anything that might be poking or scratching him as you put it on.
well if the dog dog doesn't want the jacket than don't put it on him but when it gets cold enough it will let you put it back on him again. good luck.
I agree with shatzy.. he could be in pain or something! Get him checked out by the vet. I always say go to one or two (or more) vets because just one doesn't cut it!
Also I hope your dog has his rabies shot.
What does he associate the jacket with.? Did you tease him with the jacket on? Has another animal left it's scent on it?

You could try leaving the jacket out and see what he does with it. If he smells it and leaves it alone fine. If he attempts to urinate on it, it probably has another animal smell on it. You could wear it around the house so that he sees it's okay and not attacking you.
Don't put the damn jacket on him! Apparently he is trying to tell you that he doesn't want to be a sissy like Tinkerbell and wear clothes!
What kind of dog is it? Is it really necessary for a coat? I would look for boo boo's.is he limping, have something in his paw? Is it a new kind of jacket? Was you being too rough? Was it a playful nip or a grrr then bite type of reaction?
Check the jacket to make sure nothing is sticking out or turned in a way that could have pinched him. Also check over his sides for any bumps, tenderness or cuts.
Then try it again letting him smell the jacket and put in on gently.
My God he is a DOG God gave him a coat why do you want to put another on him?
Maybe he was saying NO MORE of you B S .If it is cold outside he will do like dogs have done for a long time and deal with it
he's probably hurt or something pissed him off earlierr

just try to be more safer with him later
Maybe you accidentally hurt him.
I think there must be something in the motion of putting on his jacket that causes him physical pain, especially considering that it hasn't bothered him in the past. Dogs don't usually flip out in that manner unless there is something threatening or painful going on. Since this out of character for him, it's likely that he's trying to tell you something--mostly likely having to do with physical pain.
Maybe you just touch him in a spot where he was unconformable try putting the jacket back on again but be careful.
A lot of good answers and I am just going to agree.

Animals that lash out for no reason who have no history are sometimes doing it out of pain or illness so you will want to sort of check him out and see if he reacts to any tenderness anywhere.

You could try washing it to and see if another animal left a smell on it or something like that.
maybe he had a cut or something where you didnt see it. you could have irritated it without even knowing that you did.
Sounds like he might have some pain or perhaps you accidentally hurt him when putting it on him
