my dog drinks puddle water and out of the toilet. why doesnt he get sick?

Answers:
Cats can get Giardia from puddle water, I suspect dogs can as well., call your Vet and ask. Some parts of the country also have Hookworm in ground water- another parasite that you definitely do not want.
He probably is.Dont let him do that. There is much bacteria %26 chemicals in either of those two.
dogs can tell good h2o over bad water
Dogs are born scavengers, so they're more resistant to those stomach viruses.

Also, I think toilet water may have less bacterial than the average kitchen counter--there have been studies that have shown this. (A recent study showed fast food restaurant toilets are less germy than ice from the ice machine. Go figure.)
because they did this for centuries in the wild and they are used to it.
If you love your Dog you will stop him from doing that
Oh, come on! Canines can survive bites from most, if not all venomous snakes and spiders. What makes you think that a little bacteria are going to effect them, considering that they probably ate their own feces at one point?
Dogs prefer "dirty water", it has more minerals and vitamins in it, and usually less chlorine. Since their sense of smell is more acute than ours, chlorine, even in small amounts, smells like a heavily chlorinated pool does to us. Would you want to drink that? If there is nothing in the water to make him sick, there is no reason he should. Dirty water may not be considered potable (drinkable) for humans, but we would live. Back in pioneer times, they didn't have filtration systems, so they drank dirty water and they survived. Its just a matter of keeping ameobas, harmful bacteria and viruses out of it.
it's a good thing. do you want him to get sick.
Toilet water is actually quite clean. In McDonald's, the ice is dirtier than the toilet water, didn't you hear about the study? Plus they are used to eating dead animals and feces, their stomach bacteria can handle it.
Your dog hasn't gotten sick from this "yet." As long as the toilet water doesn't have a "cleaner" in it, he should be okay. But water that is a puddle, or standing water, carries mesquitos , which carry deceases which can kill your dog. If at all possible, don't let him drink "that" water. Like if you have a puddle in your yard, brush it away with a broom. Also check his water outside for bugs and mesquitos often. Good luck.
dogs have a high resistance to these types of bacteria
Your toilet water is really quite clean, unless it hasn't been flushed (yuck!). Drinking from a fresh rain puddle probably won't make your pet sick because a dog's stomach acid goes a long way towards keeping him/her safe from the myriad bacteria that's ingested on a daily basis. But stagnant standing water, and many streams, puddles and ponds, can be infected by Girardia, a protozoan parasite which can cause destruction of the small intestine and lead to diarrhea and other health problems. For this reason, it's not a good idea to let your buddy drink from puddles.
