It could be many things that makes your dog bark. If you leave him in the crate when you are gone then dont use the crate as punishment at all, the crate needs to be somewhere that makes him feel comfortable and safe, make sure he has some balnkets in there or a bed and some toys. It is a good idea to put him in there when you are home, so he gets used to being in there, by himself and he doesnt think you abandoned him in there. Make sure though that if he is barking in there while you are home, make sure he cant see you, cause if he can then he probably doesnt understand why hes in there and your out there. Try putting it up against the wall, or putting a blanket or towel over it, but make sure its not too think so it doesnt get hot in his cage. It takes time to get dogs crate trained. Lure him in the crate everytime with a treat. thats what I did. and now everytime they see me get my keys and go to the treat jar, my dogs run and sit in there cage waiting for me to give them their treats. I hope this helps.
Buy him a she dog m8.
you need to make sure he is getting plenty of excersize.if you do this he will be less energetic.
i think you should watch oprah's episode about dogs
Electric shock collar trainer.
Your animal (pet) is manifesting insecure behavior (fear)-
Sounds like you will need to get another pet to serve as a friend, alleviating this first animal's insecurity. . .
Your dog should have a friend, another dog or a cat that is used to dogs. You should also get him some toys to entertain him. Also leaving on the Television, or a radio will soothe him, he can hear a human voice which soothes our lonely pets.
Try making him a bed with some old shirts of yours in the bedding to make it smell like you. It might help with the seperation anxiety. Also if you could give him a chew toy or rawhide and while he's occupied, sneak out the door. He'll be busy chewing and might not notice your gone. By the time he does he wont be so upset so the barking might not even occur. If all else fails Wal-Mart sells thoses voice activated shock collars and muzzels. It might seem mean but you dont have to make him wear it all the time. Just when necessary or your sanity requires it.
get him a friend(another dog) or get him toys to play with while he's in his crate or just around the house!
get the dog a playmate I leave the tv on when i leave my dogs watch tv when i am not home it makes him feel like someone is still home with him.
While all dogs are different, I found the way to best help my dog was to ignore him. I know you said you already did this, but use some of these tips.
When you level, don't make a big deal out of it, just leave. Don't stop to say bye or say that you'll be back. He thinks its a big deal when you make it a big deal.
If you put him in his crate and he cries, reprimand him and then ignore him. If he continues, reprimand him again. But don't give in. He has to learn that to get out he has to be a good dog. When he finally stops his whining, then let him out. Be consistent, and don't give in.
How you reprimand him, may help too. A swift, but painless smack on the nose will get the point across. Some say this is mean, but only if you perform it wrong. When he whines, tell him no in an affirmative voice and then touch him on the nose. Firmly enough to get the point across, but never enough to hurt him! Some dogs will learn more by touch than by what you say or your voice.
Eventually he should learn to realize that this behaviour will not give him what he wants and that it will not be tolerated.
hope this helps :]
You should either buy another dog or send him to a professional dog trainer.
I went through this with my yellow lab. He was trying to break out of the windows according to my neighbors. I did a few things.. one, started him on a veterinary prescription called Clomacalm for a few months to train him that we would be back and he didn't have to freak out when we left. I also got a special treat for him that he only got when we walked out the door. I used small, tightly wrapped beef flavored rawhides that I purchased at Walmart and got him excited about getting "good boy sticks" when we left. They also told me to ignore him for the first 10-15 minutes after I returned home because part of the anxiety was awaiting the attention when I got back. This combination of ideas worked very well for my dog who was severely beaten and abused prior to my adopting him. He was more "stressed" than most dogs according to the vet due to his previous experiences.

They make a product that you can give your dog before you leave thats in a pill form.. Its made for dogs that get nervous/upset..You can ususally find it in any petstore such as Petsmart etc.As for the defiance when you put him in the crate, that has to be worked out over time and ignoring him will not work,,,Praise him with treats when he does well..Make sure you show how happy you are when he does well but also make sure he knows when you are upset .. Forcelfully using the word NO will eventually sink in. If all else fails, you might need to seek the advise of a professional dog trainer. They always have good tips to all kinds of behavioral probelms with pets.. One person mentioned getting rid of the dog and to me thats not the solution,, Dogs are guided animals which means we as humans have to show them what is good and what is not acceptable. If you do not follow through, the dog will not learn.. Also, buy a good dog book that has any and all behavioral issues in it for the breed you have.
Rowf is barking because we left him home alone.
Train Rowf to not bark. You need to put in a fair bit of time and effort here, put him in a room with something to amuse him, toy, etc and when Rowf starts barking, come in and tell him something like "No!", or "Stop!", point an accusing finger at him, use your best withering glare, but mainly reinforce a word that gives Rowf the idea you want him to stop barking. Praise him when he does. Give poor old Rowf a chance to understand what you are on about, it may take a while to see an improvment.
Leave a radio on for company when you leave home
I have tried the radio trick and it has work.Check out the 2nd site I listed about barking and hopefully that will give you an idea on what to do.I hope this has helped you some.Don't give up on the little one cause he needs you :)
I heard on time that if you leave a radio or tv on, the animal doesn't feel alone. I left my tv on 24/7 for my dalmation
